Detroit's Medical Marijuana Law is Limited August 10, 2004
News Summary
Voters in Detroit, Mich., passed an ordinance making it legal to use marijuana for medical purposes, but the law stops short of allowing for the drug's legal distribution, the Detroit News reported Aug. 5."You have to get it the usual way: either grow it yourself or find somebody who sells it," said Tim Beck, who chairs the Detroit Coalition for Compassionate Care, which sponsored the Detroit Medical Marijuana Initiative.
The medical marijuana measure passed on Aug. 3 with 59 percent of the vote, but some people are now questioning how the law will work. "I think that if Detroiters had known that they had to get the marijuana from a drug dealer, they would not have passed this," said retired Detroit psychologist William Marshall.
