News Summary

Hundreds of people in recovery and addiction specialists gathered at Los Angeles' Hall of Administration to call for more treatment programs for people addicted to alcohol and other drugs, the Pasadena Star News reported Sept. 1.

"We have fewer beds now for people who are homeless or have no funds because the county cut the budget," said Cheryl Roesser, an addiction counselor at Casa de Las Amigas in Pasadena, which has a three to six-month waiting list.

John Barron of Phoenix House in Monrovia and Santa Fe Springs added, "If there are not enough beds, we lose [patients] and they go back out into the street and use again. It all comes down to funding."

The rally was held in conjunction with September's National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month.
