Addiction Groups to Launch Education Campaigns June 10, 2003

During the recent Providence Summit on Addiction, 29 addiction treatment and prevention organizations agreed to develop education campaigns for the general public and the medical community, Alcoholism & Drug Abuse Weekly reported May 26.The focus of both campaigns is that treatment works. The campaigns will center on the personal nature of addiction and how it affects millions of Americans and their families.
In addition, the campaigns will emphasize the importance of early intervention and prevention and highlight recovery success stories.
The medical-community campaign will also educate physicians and others in the general-medicine and social-services fields that treatment is accessible and effective. The efforts are designed to encourage better screening and referral of patients for treatment.
Faces and Voices of Recovery (FAVOR) will help get the message out to the public.
