News Summary

During the recent Celebrate Recovery march in Michigan, hundreds of individuals recovering from addiction offered support to one another, the Lansing State Journal reported Sept. 30.

During the first-ever sobriety celebration, marchers walked down Michigan Avenue to the state Capitol. The event, sponsored by the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence of Michigan and other addiction prevention and treatment organizations, was held as part of National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month.

"People make the blanket statement that treatment doesn't work because of people like my husband who return to addiction," said guest speaker Charisse Strawberry, wife of former New York Yankee and recovering addict Darryl Strawberry. "But recovery is possible."
