News Summary

September will be designated Recovery Month under an advertising and public-relations campaign planned by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA) Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT), Substance Abuse Funding News reported June 26.

The campaign is being launched to emphasize the importance of treatment. More than 60 organizations, coalitions, and government agencies will help to create Recovery Month materials, which will focus on the social diversity of people with addictions and the need for society to be less judgmental toward them.

In addition, the campaign will feature media outreach materials, including news releases, op-ed pieces, public-service announcements, and information resources.

Recovery Month plans also include a Run for Recovery on Sept. 16 in Washington, D.C.
