News Summary

Voters living in Colorado, Nevada, Alaska and California will be facing medical-marijuana proposals on the Nov. 7 ballot, the Associated Press reported Sept. 28.

In Colorado, voters will be asked to allow marijuana use for people with serious or chronic illnesses. In Nevada, a ballot question will ask voters to add medical-marijuana laws to the state's constitution. Voters approved medical-marijuana usage in 1998. Despite Nevada's strict anti-drug laws, polls show strong support for the initiative.

In Alaska, voters will be asked to legalize marijuana for medicinal purposes and give amnesty for marijuana crimes. The proposal also would provide restitution for time in prison.

A voter's initiative in Northern California will allow adults to grow 25 marijuana plants apiece as long as they are not for sale or transport.
