Two juniors at Camp Hill High School help represent and educate their peers about substance use in Cumberland and Perry counties, Pennsylvania, the Sentinel reported on February 19.

Jake June and Daniel Miller represent their school in the Partnership against Underaged Substance Abuse and serve on a youth advisory group for the Cumberland-Perry County Drug and Alcohol Commission.

They will also contribute to a panel discussion at a town hall meeting to be held in March by the Commission's Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition.

The Coalition is "trying to build awareness in the whole community," said Charwoman Erin Donley, a community health educator with the Cumberland/Perry Tapestry of Health.

Donley cited research suggesting that alcohol and drug use is a serious health problem among adults and youth in the local area and in Pennsylvania as a whole. Surveys indicate that 18 percent of adults in Pennsylvania binge drink regularly, and 50 percent of Pennsylvania's high school seniors drink alcohol at least once a month. At Cumberland Valley High School, two thirds of students use alcohol, and one third use drugs.
