Springfield, Mass. Announces Recovery High School July 14, 2006
Communities in Action Massachusetts Lieutenant Governor Kerry M. Healey announced that Springfield will open its first recovery high school for students with substance use disorders, the Republican reported on July 11.
The Springfield public school system will fund the 50-seat alternative high school using a 5-year $2.75 million state grant.
Participation in the school includes an individual recovery plan, daily recovery help and mandatory participation in a local recovery program.
Two-thirds of the students must be from Springfield.
The state also plans to open recovery schools in Beverly and Boston.
