Sports Illustrated and Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) announced 17 Florida high schools that will receive program training in drug use prevention and health promotion, Treasure Coast Newspapers reported on May 9.

Through the grant program, schools in four states will each receive $35,000 worth of Athletes Training and Learning to Avoid Steroids (ATLAS) and Athletes Targeting Healthy Exercise and Nutrition Alternatives (ATHENA).

The announcements were made at a conference attended by over 200 high schools coaches and administrators, hosted by the Florida High School Athletic Association and the West Palm Beach substance use treatment facility, Hanley Center.

"We educated them on all the things they can do to help their athletes achieve without performance-enhancing drugs," said Jan Cairnes, manager of prevention programs at Hanley Center.
