Family Fun Night Involves Whole Community February 17, 2006
Communities in Action The Area Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition (ASAP) of South Lyon, Michigan, addressed substance use with a community-wide Family Fun Night, an evening of entertainment and information for parents and children, the South Lyon Herald reported on February 16.
Community members of all ages and professions participated in the event. Parents were given information on modern drug culture, provided by teen counselors and therapists. Teens provided their own perspective on community change in a separate forum, and will proposed their solutions in an upcoming discussion at the local library. Younger children enjoyed creative group activities.
Family Fun Night was emceed by the principle of Dolsen Elementary School. The pastor at Crossroads Community Church, whose volunteers were also helping at the event, led a puppet-making and skit-performing activity for children under 11.
Several local businesses also contributed by providing food, arts and crafts materials, special speakers and free use of their facilities.
