Open Society Awards Addiction, Violence Prevention Grants

The Open Society Institute recently awarded grants to support drug-treatment and violence-prevention programs.

In the area of substance abuse, the Open Society Institute awarded a $40,000 grant to the Legal Action Center of the City of New York to analyze Baltimore zoning standards, policies and practices that interfere with the creation of drug-treatment programs, and recovery housing.

In the area of violence prevention, a $250,000 grant was awarded to the Tides Foundation in San Francisco, Calif., for a donor-advised fund for the Funders' Collaborative for Gun Violence Prevention. The project is part of the foundation's Criminal Justice Initiatives program.

Additional grants were awarded in the areas of arts and culture; children and youths; criminal justice; death and dying; education; employment and training; gay men and lesbians; government and civil society; health; human rights; human services; law and society; legal services; the media; reproductive health and rights; and youth development.
