Three medical accreditation programs were recently awarded grants by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) as part of an initiative to lower the cost of accreditation site visits for opioid treatment programs.

SAMHSA awarded $435,000 per year for three years to The Joint Commission, which provides accreditation to more than 300 opioid treatment programs nationally; $500,000 to the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), which publishes and maintains accreditation standards, trains surveyors, and conducts site visits; and $39,500 to the National Commission on Correctional Health Care, which provides accreditation to treatment programs serving incarcerated populations.
