SAMHSA Awards $74 Million for Tribal Treatment and Prevention November 14, 2008

Tribal agencies providing addiction and mental health services to Native Americans and Alaskan Natives have been awarded a total of $74 million in grants by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
The grants, made under SAMHSA's Tribal Initiative, went to 39 tribal-services agencies and will be used for both treatment and prevention. In 2006, SAMHSA awarded the first round of grants under the initiative, funding 18 agencies. Last year, another 20 grants were made; 2006 and 2007 funding under the program totaled more than $65 million.
