$105 Million Awarded for HIV/AIDS, Addiction Services October 16, 2008
Funding Tips & Trends
Community-based programs that provide both addiction and HIV/AIDS services have been awarded a total of $105 million in grants by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
The Targeted Capacity Expansion Program grants target traditionally underserved populations, such as African-Americans, Latinos/Hispanics, and other communities affected by HIV/AIDS and addiction. Funds will be used to implement evidence-based treatment programs that address both health issues, including case management, HIV testing, mental-health referrals, and risk-reduction education. Community outreach efforts also will be funded.
The grants went to 49 community programs, which will receive an average of $450,000 each annually over the next five years for treatment, or $350,000 annually for community outreach. The grants are administered by SAMHSA's Center for Substance Abuse Treatment.
