Tribal organizations addressing addiction and mental illness among American Indians and Alaskan Natives will receive a total of $65 million in grants from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

A total of 19 tribal services groups received awards.

"The more than $110 million in grant commitments SAMHSA has made to tribal service providers [during the past two years] highlight our belief that funding for these vital services should go whenever possible directly to those on the frontlines – those in the tribal communities who are addressing these issues," said SAMHSA Deputy Administrator Eric Broderick. "Through our Tribal Initiative, SAMHSA has succeeded in strengthening the resilience and recovery capabilities of American Indian and Alaska Native communities."
