Rhode Island lawmakers plan to sell off another big chunk of its future payments from the 1998 nationwide tobacco settlement, Providence Business News reported June 18.
Lawmakers have agreed to sell $216 million in bonds based on the future tobacco payments; in 2002, a similar securitization scheme yielded $685 million.
Legislators and Gov. Don Carcieri were debating whether to allocate the funds to transportation projects or the general fund.
