Healthcare contributions rose a record 16 percent in the U.S. and 11 percent in Canada in 2005, according to a report from the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy.

PNN Online reported Oct. 26 that the AHP Report on Giving found that contributions to healthcare organizations rose to $7.01 billion. Individuals accounted for 60 percent of all giving, followed by businesses (18.2 percent), non-corporate foundations (12.7 percent), and other sources (9.9 percent).

"Despite concerns about the economy and terrorism, Americans and their Canadian counterparts have earmarked their health care contributions in record numbers to make a difference in people's lives every day," said AHP President and Chief Executive Officer William C. McGinly, Ph.D.
