Donations to community foundations in the U.S. rose 34 percent in 2005, according to a survey of 641 community foundations from the Columbus Foundation.

The Chronicle of Philanthropy reported Sept. 14 that donations to community foundations increased from $4.2 billion in 2004 to $5.6 billion in 2005.

Community foundations also increased their giving last year, making $3.2 billion in grants, up 8 percent from 2004 ($3 billion).

Total community foundation assets grew 13 percent in 2005. The complete study can be found at the Columbus Foundation website.
