$145 Million in Strategic Prevention Framework Grants Awarded September 29, 2006
Funding Tips & Trends
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has awarded 16 grants totaling $145 million under its Strategic Prevention Framework State Incentive Grants program, which addresses both addiction and mental-health prevention.
"People from all sectors of a community are needed to help build resilience and reduce risk factors that affect the decision to reject substance abuse," said Assistant Surgeon General Eric Broderick, D.D.S, M.P.H., acting deputy administrator of SAMHSA. "Similarly, funding streams from multiple sources can come together to build a comprehensive approach to prevention that spans organizations and individuals at the local and state levels. The grants being awarded today help achieve both of those goals."
SAMHSA awarded $29 million in first-year grants, renewable for up to five years based on funds availability and program progress. Grants were made to state agencies in Alaska, American Samoa, California, Georgia, Hawaii, Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Utah, and Wisconsin.
