Funding Tips & Trends

New York, Illinois, and California are among 10 states that received nearly a billion dollars in earmarked "faith-based" funding in 2004, the Associated Press reported April 1.

$2 billion of total "faith-based" funds were awarded in 2004, up from $1.17 billion in 2003. Forty percent of that money went to programs in the top 10 states, while another third was awarded to international groups.

The increase is part of a continuing initiative from President Bush to boost the availability of funds to faith-based organizations. New Jersey, Florida, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Texas, Georgia, and Ohio were among the other top states receiving funding.
