Funding Tips & Trends

The family of Pittsfield, Mass., resident Patrick Miller, who died of a heroin overdose, has launched a foundation in his memory to support addiction-treatment programs, the Berkshire Eagle reported Oct. 8.

Miller died six years ago at age 32; the Patrick Miller Trust will be funded with $2 million in principal and fund programs like the new Patrick Miller Youth Substance Abuse Program in Pittsfield, which was unveiled this month at the Brien Center.

"The Millers' gift has enabled us to provide specialized services to our youth and their families and focus integrated treatment in a way that has not existed in this community," said Marjorie Cohan, the Brien Center's executive director. The center provides addiction and mental-health services to about 10,000 Berkshire County residents annually.

The fund will be managed by the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation.
