Funding Tips & Trends
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has awarded $230 million in grants for alcohol and other drug abuse and mental illness prevention, as well as for promoting mental health. The 21 programs received funding as part of the Department of Health and Human Services' Strategic Prevention Framework State Incentive Grants. The grant focuses on work at the community to level, to "bring together multiple funding streams from multiple sources to implement a comprehensive approach to prevention that cuts across existing programs and systems,” said SAMHSA Administrator Charles G. Curie.
Nineteen states and two U.S. dependent areas will receive funding; $2.35 million a year will go to each state program, while Guam and Palau will receive $996,000 and $420,000 per annum, respectively.
