The Charles Stewart Mott Foundation is supporting an educational-advocacy initiative by a Los Angeles addiction treatment and prevention coalition.

Mott's $200,000 grant to the Community Coalition for Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment will support advocacy on behalf of universal access to college-prep classes for South L.A. high-school students. The coalition also will take part in Mott's evaluation of organizing efforts around educational reform in low-performing schools.

The grant was made under Mott's poverty program. Other grants were awarded nationally in the areas of community development, conservation and environment, government and civil society, and nonprofits and philanthropy.
