The Bush administration has awarded $43 million in Compassion Capital Fund grants to community- and faith-based organizations addressing a wide range of issues, including addiction, homelessness, employment, and hunger.

A total of 145 grants were awarded, and addiction treatment programs were among the recipients. In the current round, $31.1 million went to continuation awards under the Compassion Capital Fund Demonstration Program; $46.9 million went to 14 intermediary organizations that help grassroots, faith, and community groups; and $4.9 million went to 100 groups under the Compassion Capital Fund Targeted Capacity Building Program. Recipients of the latter included programs serving at-risk youth, homelessness, and other issues.
