In support of its Building Effective Substance Abuse Treatment (BEST) initiative, the Charles and Helen Schwab Foundation recently awarded a dozen $50,000 grants to treatment programs in the San Francisco Bay Area.As part of the $2.5-million BEST project, developed in collaboration with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Schwab gave grants to Asian American Recovery Services in Daly City; Daytop Village, El Centro de Libertdad, The Service League, and Youth and Family Assistance (all in Redwood City); Family and Community Enrichment Services of San Carlos; Horizon Services of Hayward; the Latino Commission and the Sitike Counseling Center (both of San Francisco); Project 90 of San Mateo; Pyramid Alternative of Pacifica; and the Women's Recovery Association of Burlingame.
The foundation also made awards in the areas of housing and homelessness and poverty.
