CA: Wellness Foundation Makes Violence-Prevention, Addiction Grants December 5, 2003
Funding Tips & Trends
The California Wellness Foundation recently awarded grants to a number of violence-prevention organizations statewide as well as giving financial assistance to addiction-treatment programs.Under its violence-prevention program area, the foundation gave grants ranging from $60,000 to $150,000 to:
- Cambodian Youth Development of Oakland for a program for at-risk youth
- the San Diego District Attorney's office for its Family Justice Center
- the Majaree Mason Center of Fresno for a school-based domestic-violence prevention program
- the Mentoring Center of Oakland for mentoring at-risk and incarcerated youth
- the Mono County Office of Education for mentoring youths ages 5 to 17
- Petaluma People Services Center for school-based violence-prevention programs
- Physicians for Social Responsibility to teach doctors about gun violence and prevention
- Round Valley Indian Housing Authority in Covelo for an after-school drug and violence prevention program
- Youth Radio of Berkeley a violence-prevention radio training program.
Under its women and girls program area, the foundation also gave $120,000 to the Homeless Prenatal Program of San Francisco to provide prenatal substance abuse, housing, and other programs to homeless women and their families; and $75,000 to Positive Opportunities for Women Engaged in Recovery of Lemon Grove to provide outpatient addiction treatment and recovery services.The foundation also made awards in the areas of environment and health, health, and mental health.
