Funding Tips & Trends
Ten addiction-treatment programs nationally have been chosen to take part in Paths to Recovery, a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation project that seeks to tear down organizational barriers to addiction recovery. The chosen programs are considered national leaders in redesigning processes like intake, assessment, scheduling, outreach, and family involvement to streamline operations and make it easier for patients to complete treatment. "We've found that often the real issue keeping patients from treatment is the way that services are delivered, and this is the issue each organization participating in the Paths to Recovery program is addressing," said David Gustafson, director of the Paths to Recovery initiative.
Added foundation senior program officer Victor Capoccia: "These grantees lead a generation of providers focusing on addiction as a health [issue and] not a behavioral problem, and focusing on proven treatment interventions."
The Paths to Recovery grantees include Acadia Hospital of Bangor, Maine, the Barnwell County Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse of Barnwell, S.C., Brandywine Counseling, Inc., of Wilmington, Del., Daybreak of Spokane, Wash., Gosnold, Inc., of Fairmont, Mass., the Jackie Nitschke Center, Inc., of Green Bay, Wisc., Kentucky River Community Care, Inc., of Jackson, Ky., Perinatal Treatment Services of Seattle, Wash., Prairie Ridge Addiction Treatment Services of Mason City, Iowa, and St. Christopher's Inn of Garrison, N.Y.
