Alcohol/AIDS Grants from NIAAAOctober 27, 2006
Funding Opportunity
Researchers interested in the role that alcohol use plays in the transmission of HIV and AIDS can apply for funding from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA).
The Structural Interventions, Alcohol Use, and Risk of HIV/AIDS grants program is open to nonprofits, governments, schools, housing authorities, and small businesses, among others. Using the Exploratory/Developmental Research Grant (R21) mechanism, NIAAA will support organizations that "investigate the effectiveness of structural interventions that reduce the risk of HIV/AIDS transmission by changing the environment of alcohol use."
"Although a variety of structural and environmental interventions have been employed successfully to reduce other drinking-related problems, there has been little research that extends such efforts into the realm of HIV/AIDS risk reduction," the agency noted.
Application deadline is open. For more information, see the full grant announcement online.
