The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) announced an approximately $300,000 grant to fund ground-level strategies for combating Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) among at-risk mothers in South Africa.The grant comprises the CDC's "Implementing Community-Level Strategies for Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Prevention and Surveillance in South Africa," with twofold requirements: that the grantee identify at-risk communities, and develop a model programs to combat alcohol abuse among potential and expecting mothers.
Nonprofit, non-governmental organizations, faith-based groups, and universities capable of carrying out the program requirements are eligible to apply. Deadline for letters of intent is June 16, with the full application due July 1. Estimated funding date is Aug. 31.
