Target Audience
This activity is intended for counselors specializing in alcohol dependence and abuse.
Learning Objectives
After completing this educational program, alcohol counselors should be better able to:
- Summarize the incidence of alcohol abuse and dependence, and the impact of these disorders on both the individual and society
- Discuss the efficacy and safety of the medications available for the treatment of alcohol dependence
- Describe common psychosocial interventions for the treatment of alcohol dependence
- Outline strategies for combining medication and psychosocial interventions to improve patient outcomes
Accreditation Statement
Join Together/The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University is a NAADAC (The Association of Addiction Professionals) Approved Education Provider (# 454) and has met the nationally approved standards of education for alcoholism and drug abuse counselors. CEUs provided through this program will be accepted toward national credentialing by the NAADAC Certification Commission and also by many of the individual state licensing/certification bodies.
Credit Designation
Join Together/The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University designates this educational activity for a maximum of 2.0 CEUs (1.0 CEU for each half of the slide presentation), representing four hours of contact time. Participants should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity (course requirements).
Instructions for Obtaining Credit
To receive acknowledgement for participating in this activity, complete the online knowledge tests for Part 1 and Part 2 of the presentation. A passing score of 70% or higher on each test is required to receive your certificates, which will be immediately available for download as a PDF document.
